Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a campervan and a motorhome?

Campervans and motorhomes do share similarities, however, campervans are usually a smaller, more compact vehicle. Whereas a motorhome is typically larger and built by fitting a coachbuilt living space on the back of a chassis.

Are campervans easy to drive?

This depends on various factors, including the vehicle’s size, your driving experience and your comfort level. They are easier to drive over larger motorhomes, but with a bit of practice and confidence, you’ll find driving a campervan more comfortable over time.

Can you drive a campervan on a normal driving licence?

In the UK, you can drive a campervan on a normal driving licence as long as the vehicle does not exceed 3500kg and is designed to carry no more than 8 passengers, including the driver.

What are the differences between Swift Merlin, Carrera and Trekker campervans?

Swift offers Merlin, Carrera and Trekker as three separate campervan ranges within its current collection. If you’re unsure which range or layout is right for you, explore the available models at Spinney or speak to our team to compare your options.

The award-winning Swift campervans

Most recently, the adventurous Trekker has been named Best Campervan for Solo Travel at the 2025 Practical Motorhome Awards and the Coolest Campervan at the Out & About Live Campervan Design Awards. The Carrera also won at the Motorhome & Campervan Design awards, earning the title Van Conversions with a Rising or Pop-Top Roof (6 metres and over).
