They say charity begins at home, but here at Spinney we believe it begins at motorhomes, (and campervans and caravans). Our company has a proud history of supporting two very worthy causes: When You Wish Upon A Star and Cardiac Risk In The Young. We’d like to tell you a little bit about them.

When you Wish Upon a Star

Since 1990, When You Wish Upon A Star has worked tirelessly to grant the special desires of children living with a life-threatening illness. Their wishes may be as modest as having a laptop to keep in touch with friends from hospital, right through to meeting celebrities or sporting heroes, to meeting favourite characters at Walt Disney World, Florida, and even swimming with dolphins. Every child deserves to smile, and with the charity’s support they can have time away, giving their families something to look forward to during times of stress, uncertainty and often financial as well as emotional difficulty. Around 20,000 wishes have been granted so far across the UK.

Support of Cardiac Risk In The Young

Support of Cardiac Risk In The Young is much closer to home for everyone at Spinney. The charity was founded in 1995 to raise awareness of conditions which can lead to young sudden cardiac death. CRY works with cardiologists and doctors to promote and protect the cardiac health of the young through good practice and screening facilities throughout the UK.

Spinney was founded by Gill and the late Nick Holland Snr, whose son Nick worked here from 2002 and ran the service department between 2006 and his unexpected death in February 2010 (of an undiagnosed heart condition). In 2014 we launched the Grace Bear campaign – named after Nick and his wife Gemma’s only child, who was a mere nine weeks old at the time of his death.

Purchasing a Grace the Bear

The Grace Bear can be purchased from any of our branches, which results in a £10 donation to Cardiac Risk In The Young. In addition, each new and used vogue motorhome or caravan bought from us is supplied with a Grace Bear. The only thing we ask in return is that travellers send us pictures or even stories from the road of all the fun Grace Bear has and the many places she visits. Pictures and stories can be uploaded to our Facebook or Twitter pages, emailed to [email protected] or even sent in the post. There are competitions with fantastic prizes throughout the year.

Grace Bear’s mission is to keep Spinney customers company on all their motorhome and caravan adventures and help them truly enjoy their time on the road by reminding them just how precious life is.
