When looking for a new motorhome, whether it’s for weekend getaways or longer adventures, choosing the right make and model comes down to lifestyle, budget and practical needs. In this article, we are going to explore the benefits of owning an A-class motorhome, why we would recommend it, and what to consider when buying one.
What is an A-Class Motorhome?
Different to coachbuilt models, A-class motorhomes don’t have a separate cab, instead, they are built as a single, unified body. They are known for their panoramic windscreens, luxurious features and spacious designs. Of course, these additional features mean they are also heavier and bigger, which usually means they require a higher driving licence category. Generally, a Category B licence covers vehicles up to 3,500kg, while heavier models may require Category C1.
Why Should I Choose an A-class Motorhome?
One of the biggest benefits is size. A-class motorhomes offer larger showers, lounge space and full kitchen units. Typically, sleeping up to 6 people, A-class motorhomes are a great option if you have children, pets or you are just wanting more space when travelling longer distances or for longer durations. With the additional space, you are also guaranteed additional storage options so you can create the ‘home from home’ feeling you are wanting.
As the A-class motorhome is a larger vehicle, it also comes with a much larger windscreen which provides you with greater visibility. This is a major benefit for drivers, as it allows you to have a better view, meaning you can feel more in control, whilst being able to take in the views.
A-class motorhomes are custom-built, meaning they allow for high-quality continuous sandwich-panel construction and double floors. This provides excellent “Grade 3” thermal and acoustic insulation for winter travelling.
When it comes to sleeping arrangements, most A-class motorhomes have a drop-down bed above the cab that is electrically operated and provides a comfortable sleeping area without compromising on daytime living space.
What to Consider When Choosing a Motorhome
Buying a new motorhome is an exciting thing and it’s the start of a fun journey, but there are factors to consider beforehand.
- Who will be travelling in your motorhome? This includes both sleeping and travelling as sometimes the amount of berths is different to the amount of seatbelts available.
- What type of trip are you planning? If you are planning to only use your motorhome for weekend breaks and short getaways then a smaller motorhome might be better, whereas, if you are planning on going on longer trips, with more people, then A-class models may be better.
- What layout is best for your needs? This can be a make-or-break consideration, as some people prefer a fixed bed as it gets rid of the need to make up the sleeping area every night. However, others prefer a larger space during the day and don’t mind converting the seating areas into beds when needed.
