NCC survey shows UK touring caravan sales up 20% on last year, with 37% of buyers ‘newbies’
The NCC (National Caravan Council), the trade association which oversees the leisure industry in the UK for all manufacturers and dealers have undertaken a recent study into the demand for caravans since dealerships reopened on 1st June and even more importantly where these new buyers were coming from. The survey was undertaken by CRiS who register all the caravans within the UK and it offers some very positive reading!
The main headline figures are:
· Caravan Sales up 20% versus the same period last year and indications in August it was growing even fast!
· 37% of the purchases made since June 1st were from buyers who have never owned a caravan before ‘Newbies’ with 34% of the newbies being aged 44 with almost half of them having children at home!
· 23% of the purchases were from caravanners who were coming back ‘ Returners’
This is some fantastic news for everyone involved in the leisure industry from manufacturers, dealers to campsites and accessory shops; especially with the large introduction of new caravanners to the industry. The Newbies and Returners cited the avoidance of flying and quarantine periods to be the largest factor in thee reason for wanting to holiday in the UK.
