The Best Campsites Around the UK in 2021

Published: 13th September 2021 Last updated 6 months ago
campsite

If you are looking for a way to escape your everyday life and reconnect with nature, the UK is packed with incredible campsites. Camping and caravanning have become some of the most popular holidays in the past year, and they are an inexpensive way to see more of the beautiful country we are lucky enough to call home. Today we’re going to share with you a selection of our favourite campsites around the UK, all of which will make for a fantastic weekend or week away with your family and friends.

The Quiet Site, Ullswater

Located in the heart of the Lake District, The Quiet Site is an award-winning, carbon neutral holiday park. It offers a wide selection of facilities, and as well as pitching your tent here, they also have permanent accommodation options. In 2020, they won a Queens Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development, and they are the first holiday park in the UK to receive this award. The site is located just ten minutes away from the M6 and is the ideal base for hiking and exploring in the Lake District National Park. Nearby you’ll find Ullswater Way, which is a 20-mile circular walk around a stunning lake. Facilities on the site include Wi-Fi, a zero-waste shop, and an on-site bar and dining location. There’s also an extensive camper’s kitchen and modern showers for a comfortable stay.

Beach View, Sizewell

Beach View in Sizewell, Suffolk, is the ideal spot for a peaceful break away from your busy life. It’s located right on the top of the cliffs overlooking the sea down below. There’s an on-site bar and wood-fired pizza oven, and while there’s little on-site entertainment, the views and the beach are the main attraction at this site. You’ll enjoy walking along the coast to Thorpeness and Aldeburgh during your trip and admiring everything this part of the world has to offer for visitors. For individuals who live in a city or need a true break from their everyday life, it’s the perfect place to disconnect and spend time with your family and friends.

Cornish Tipi Holidays, Bodmin

Enjoy wild camping in the hidden woodland valley at Cornish Tipi Holidays, which is located in Bodmin in Cornwall. They also offer North American tipis if you are looking for a unique experience that your kids and teens will love. There are plenty of private spots on offer if you are looking to get away from it all, or you can pitch your tent in the open meadow. On the site, you’ll find a lake for fishing, swimming, and canoeing, or you can enjoy sitting out by the fire pit at the end of the day and immersing yourself in the beautiful natural scenery around you. You’ll find no shortage of things to do in Cornwall if you are staying here for a few nights, and Bodmin is the ideal location for visiting the Eden Project.

Kilvrecht Campsite, Perthshire

Scotland is one of the most exciting regions of the UK to explore when you are planning your next staycation. Head for the woods at Kilvrecht Campsite, which is located in Perthshire. Every morning, you’ll wake up to the sound of birdsong, and it’s the ideal spot to indulge in a digital detox and break away from work. There are no electrical hook-ups or hot water taps here, so you are certainly going to enjoy a real escape from reality, but you’ll find that the fresh air and the location of the campsite are well worth the sacrifice. Nearby, you’ll find Loch Rannoch, where you can enjoy fishing or walking, and it’s a great location for exploring a little more of this part of Scotland.

Ten Acres Vineyard, Winkleigh

Devon is another popular spot for individuals looking to staycation in the UK, and at Ten Acres Vineyard, you can combine wine tasting with camping for your next short break. Pitches start at just £8 a night, but they also offer glamping options if you would prefer something a little more sophisticated. The vineyard is located right on the site, and you’ll be able to safely make it back to your tent after trying a glass or two of the local wine. The reception for the site is located within the Devon Wine Shack, where you’ll be able to stock up on local snacks and drinks for your trip. There aren’t many places in the UK left like Winkleigh, so you’ll also enjoy strolling around this peaceful thatched village.

Carrowmena Activity Centre, County Londonderry

Heading over to Northern Ireland, families will love stopping at Carrowmena Activity Centre during the school holidays. It can sometimes be a challenge to convince kids and teens to go on holiday as a family, but you’ll find this to be a great spot for kids of all ages. As well as offering camping from £8 a night, you’ll find other accommodation options, including glamping pods and luxury bell tents. When it comes to things to do on the site, you’ll be spoilt for choice as there’s always something going on here. One of the highlights of a stay here is taking on the challenge of the Maize Maze, which is a fun experience for the whole family. There are plenty of water-based activities and action-packed adventures on offer, so you’ll never be short of something to do, even if you opt to stay for a week or longer.

Fidden Farm, Isle of Mull

Another great camping gem for your trip to Scotland can be found in the Isle of Mull. This spot requires you to get a ferry over to reach Fidden Farm, but it’s well worth the effort once you get there. You’ll feel like you’ve escaped to another part of the world once you arrive, as the beaches rival those in the Caribbean. This remote campsite is located right by the beach, and you’ll even be able to hear the sound of the waves as you fall asleep at night. During the daytime, keep an eye out for wildlife in the local area, such as dolphins and eagles. We recommend bringing bikes or kayaks here if you are looking to explore more of the island, as you’ll be able to get off-road to see hidden gems around every corner.

Top of the Woods, Pembrokeshire

Wales has no shortage of fantastic sites for camping and caravanning, but one of our favourites is Top of the Woods in Pembrokeshire. This is a great spot for getting back to basics, and you’ll find they offer some excellent eco-friendly accommodation options if you don’t have something already organised. While you’re staying here, you’ll find plenty of wild activities to keep you entertained, such as a stand-up paddleboard safari or wild foraging. The local area is one of the most beautiful parts of the UK, and if you are visiting in the summer months, don’t miss the chance to go swimming at one of the local wild swimming spots.

Hidden Valley Camping, Worcestershire

If you love the simple pleasures in life, head to Hidden Valley Camping for your next short break. This family-run site will offer you a warm welcome, and while it’s certainly more basic than some of the other sites on our list, it’s a rural gem that is ideal for getting away from the realities of everyday life. There are only a few pitches here, so make sure you book early for the summer months. You’ll find it well located between Shropshire and Malvern Hills, so there’s no shortage of things to do during your trip. Make sure you put aside a day to visit Witley Court, which is one of England’s top ruins to visit and is located only a short drive from the site.

Trwyn Yr Wylfa, Snowdonia

Located near Conwy Mountain, this campsite has some of the best views of any site in the UK. You’ll be able to wake up to the view of Snowdonia, the Great Orme and Anglesey, which can all be seen from almost any pitch. Thanks to its central location, you’ll find there’s no shortage of walks for you and your family to enjoy, and the beach is also just a few minutes away from the site. On the campsite, you’ll find plenty to keep you entertained after a busy day of exploring, such as a playing field and Wi-Fi.

Lepe Beach, Hampshire

If you’ve always fancied visiting the New Forest but have been put off by the pricey hotels in the area, head to Lepe Beach in Hampshire instead. It’s located on the edge of the New Forest and is just a short walk from the coast as well. You’ll be able to wake up to beautiful views of the Isle of Wight from the beach and watch the ships sailing past each morning. During the day, head to the New Forest to see the wild ponies and the pretty villages that are waiting to be explored. If you are feeling a little peckish during your stay, we highly recommend the nearby Lookout Café for mid-morning coffee. While there are 100 pitches on the site here, make sure you book early during the summer months as it’s a very popular spot with families during the school holidays.

Caolasnacon Caravan & Camping Park, Argyll

Heading back up to Scotland, you’ll find Caolasnacon Caravan & Camping Park located on the south shore of Loch Leven within the Scottish Highlands. It’s one of the most science sites in the country, and it’s a great location for wildlife spotters to spend a few days. Keep a look out for deer and golden eagles, which you can often see from your pitch. In the local area, you’ll be able to enjoy long days of walking and canoeing. Don’t miss taking a trip to the Loch Leven Seafood Café for lunch or dinner one day, which is known for its extensive menu and fresh seafood. The campsite is extremely well kept and has a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere.

Deepdale Farm, Norfolk

Staying near the coast is something that many of us are looking for during a UK break, and this campsite is ideally located by the North Norfolk coastline. You’ll be able to access the coastal path from here, or you could hire a bike on the site to explore the villages nearby. The site is known for its large pitches and excellent facilities. There are also many activities run on the site, which are great for keeping younger children entertained during the school holidays. Wildlife lovers will appreciate the location as it’s in the heart of one of the country’s best birding areas, and the RSPB Reserve is just a few minutes down the road.

There are so many fantastic campsites to visit in the UK, and wherever you are planning your next adventure, you’ll find there is no shortage of places to stay. Many of these sites are very popular in the summer months and school holidays, so make sure you book your pitch as soon as possible. While the facilities may vary from site to site, all of these sites we’ve shared today are located in spectacular parts of the country, where you can enjoy exploring the local countryside and immersing yourself in the natural scenery. It’s the ideal way to take a break from your busy life and reconnect with nature and your family once again.
