Which Caravans Have Island Beds?

Published: 26th July 2023 Last updated 22 days ago
Caravan

Although it will definitely be much more compact than your bricks and mortar home, there are always features which can make a caravan feel more spacious than you might expect – and more luxurious, too. Generating something along the lines of a very high quality hotel suite, a decent luxury caravan will provide a certain kind of ambience based on spatial smarts and impressive interior features. Amongst these will be a good layout and the inclusion of an island bed. In this edition of our blog we’ll take a look at island beds, and offer you our thoughts on what makes them great, as well as suggestions of a handful of caravans with island beds and which make the most of them.

What is an island bed caravan?

An island bed caravan is, essentially, a caravan with a bed which easily allows access from the bottom and from either side. Often in caravans or other leisure vehicles this is not the case as the beds will be convertible from seating, or positioned with one side against a wall. An island bed, essentially, is more or less like the bed in your home.

There are two types of island bed – rear island beds and transverse island beds. The former is a double bed which is positioned with the head end on the back wall of the caravan, and which is oriented lengthways into the interior. The latter is a double which is positioned towards the middle of the caravan, with the head end against one wall and the bed positioned widthways across it. The advantage in having a transverse island bed is that it allows a washroom right at the rear of the caravan, whereas a rear island bed doesn’t. If your preference is for a rear washroom (and so a transverse island bed) it may be worth considering your options with extra wide caravans, as they tend to allow a bit more room to get past the bed to the washroom.

Our island bed caravan picks

Adria Adora 623 DP Tiber:

There are four layout options for the Adora available at Spinney, including the fantastic 623 DP Tiber. With a rear island bed and plenty of space for the whole family to enjoy, this is a luxury caravan with elegant and sophisticated living spaces. To the front, separated from the rear island bed area by a contemporary washroom, is a spacious seating area so that everyone can socialise in comfort. This area converts to a comfortable double bed at night.

Bailey Pegasus Grande Messina:

The Messina is one of the highlights of the Bailey Pegasus Grande range. A comfortable rear island bed is sectioned off into its own private bedroom area due to a central washroom dividing up the space and separating it from the G-shaped lounge (which also converts into a comfortable double bed) and kitchen. This super-sized luxury caravan is eight feet wide, so there is plenty of space for everyone to live comfortably when they’re on the road, and to maximise this there are plenty of storage options (under bench and overhead at the front, overhead in the rear bedroom plus two wardrobes).

Swift Challenger 560 SE:

Ever popular at Spinney is the Swift Challenger range, and the 560 SE is a pick amongst that bunch. It sleeps four with ease, in a rear island bed plus front convertible double or two singles. Privacy is ensured as the areas are split out from each other by a centrally located shared washroom which is accessible from both sides.

Coachman VIP Vogue 575:

Exclusive to Spinney is the four berth Coachman VIP range. Hugely popular owing to its comfortable and relaxing interior, it has plenty of highly practical onboard features including superior domestic privacy, due to the rear washroom and transverse island bed. Being able to separate this sleeping area off from the front of the caravan thanks to the sliding partition is a fantastic feature which allows you to claim it as your own. The fixed island bed can be retracted during the day to open up your floor space and allow easy access to the full width washroom, and then extended out again at night when it’s time to hit the hay. Also, the Coachman VIP Vogue 575’s front parallel lounge can be converted into either one double or two single beds, for the ultimate in guest or family comfort.

Amongst the leisure vehicles we stock at Spinney are plenty of luxury caravans with island beds why not check them out in person at one of our three branches and discover your next adventure.
