Q. Can you drive a motorhome on an ordinary car driving licence?
A. All the motorhomes at Spinney can be driven on an ordinary car licence. However if you are approaching or are indeed 70 yrs old or more then you may be restricted to driving a motorhome that has a maximum weight of 3,500 KG. You will need to check this with the DVLC. Like wise if you have just passed your drving test you may have weight restrictions again. If in any doubt you should contact the DVLC.
Q. Do you take part exchanges against the motorhomes?
A. Yes we will take motorhomes, caravans, cars, vans and motorbikes.
Q. How much is the Road Fund Licence for a motorhome?
A. The current rates are 93.50 for 6 months or 170.00 for 12 months. Taxation class for upto 3,500 kg is Private Light Goods. Over 3,500KG classed as Private HGV. Some smaller motorhomes will be subject to a reduced fee if the engine size is under 1500cc.
Q. How long does it take Spinney to prepare my motorhome?
A. The average turn around time from purchase to collection is about 10 days. This is only a guide and your Salesman will be able to advise further.
Q. How many Miles Per Gallon will the motorhomes do?
A. It is difficult to give exact figures but expect a diesel to do 25-30 MPG and a petrol to do 20-25 MPG. These are only estimates but are based on what customers tell us.
Q. How much does it cost to insure a motorhome?
A. This will vary depending on the motorhome and customer profile but in general you should be looking to pay between 200-500. It is worth considering what level of cover you need such as including contents, breakdown and new for old protection. The fitting of a Thatcham Category 1 alarm will sometimes be required.
Q. What motorhome security do you recommend?
A. Most of the new motorhomes are supplied with 'chipped' keys which are needed to start the vehicle. Most customers improve on this by fitting a Thatcham Catergory 1. We supply and fit a Sigma S34 System priced at 495.
Q. What deposit do I need to pay to secure a motorhome?
A. We generally ask for 1,000 deposit against any vehicle except the Frankias where we ask for 2,000. These deposits are not refundable should you change your mind.
Q. What proofs do I need to buy a motorhome on finance?
A. We fax your Name, Address, DOB, Occupation and Bank Account details to the relevant finance company who will make a decision based upon your personal profile and credit history. You will need to provide a full copy of your driving licence. If this is not in your current address we may need to ask for some utility bills.
Q. How can I provide payment for my motorhome?
A. We accept Building Society Cheques, Banker's Draft, Switch and Credit Cards. Deposits taken on Credit Cards are free from charges however balances paid by Credit Cards will attract a handling fee of 2.5%.
